Academy Awards Thoughts (Yes, I’m weak)

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Yeah, we ended up watching the Awards- and I’m glad we did, it was good to see the recaps of some of the movies and some of the fun skits they did making fun of the actors.

Thoughts:

  • Jon Stewart is a no-talent ass clown (Sorry about the language Grandma)
  • A few people made comments relating to DVDs killing movie theatres- while this is true to an extent, they should be making better movies, and being more creative about how to make theatres lucrative again (I’ll probably make a more detailed post about this one of these days)
  • The montages were very well done- it made me go on netflix and queue up some that I haven’t seen before or in a while.
  • Everyone who I really wanted to win won!

Well, it looks like this year wasn’t as bad as I thought- I’m really happy that Philip Seymore Hoffman won- he really deserved it, and I need to see this movie Crash now- I was sure they were going to give it to Brokeback Mountain (I haven’t seen any of the nominated movies yet, so I didn’t even know who to root for)
I need to get myself to bed- got work early tomorrow!

Real Life Simpsons?

This is cool- they did a live action version of The Simpsons’ openning sequence; you can view it here.

Academy Awards

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Tonight is the Academy Awards, but I don’t think I’ll watch- I love movies, but I hate Hollywood- and on top of that, the Academy Awards are always political and try to push some agenda. In any case, I’m hoping Philip Seymore Hoffman will win best actor- he’s been good in everything I’ve seen him in, and he’s from the Rochester area. I haven’t seen Capote yet, but I’ve heard he did an excellent job in it. Let’s just hope ‘The Academy’ doesn’t give all of their awards to Brokeback Mountain to make a statement or something.
